The first depicts Governor William Sprague, IV of Rhode Island in a militia uniform, the image with no backmark; the second and third CDVs could very well represent a couple, his a military portrait with a Campbell & Ecker, Louisville, KY backmark, while her picture carries an F. Clapsadel, Painesville, Ohio backmark, both with Internal Revenue tax stamps. Curiously, a junior officer's cdv exists from Painesville that shows a sitter who looks much like the young man here, but from a different angle. Perhaps they are one in the same person.
