1824 Button Celebrating General Lafayette's American Tour
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
One-piece, 20mm, gilt brass to both sides, the face with Lafayette's mature profile, the back with "L. H. & SCOVILL * EXTRA" mark. Albert PC 31B.

Americans of the early 19th century fondly remembered Lafayette's efforts on behalf of independence during the Revolutionary War, as well as his close friendship with George Washington. As a result, the aging French celebrity's highly acclaimed 1824 visit to our shores was a tangible link to our nation's earliest days.

Excavated, with some expected ground action; gilt largely intact in all the right places.
