English, the mahogany box late 18th century, cubic form with applied brass double handles and shaped escutcheon, deep violet upholstered lid, on four round feet, no key (9 x 8 x 7 1/2 in.) (brass feet in front are likely original, while rear feet are likely later, some scratches and shrinkage cracks, missing upholstery to base); the pewter jar is mid 19th century, cylindrical form with finial lid, appears unmarked, with antiques retailer label to underside (5 3/4 x 4 1/8 in.) (some denting; separation to rim edge, solder repair to finial)
