Ink and watercolor on paper, signed "W Seese" lower right, typed label on verso reads, "Marine Patrol Receives Orders and Instructions - New Britain - By Corp. James Wayne Seese, USMCR," presented behind mat in likely original frame.

Sight size 10-1/2 x 13-1/2 in.; Frame dimensions 17-1/2 x 20 in.

A photograph of the James W. Seese holding a rifle is preserved in the Forbes Watson papers, Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution. Works by Seese, when a combat artist in the Pacific, were published in The Old Breed: A History of the First Marine Division in World War II. Additionally, two of his paintings, "Working Party" and "Nature Scene," are retained in the collections of The University of Texas - Arlington.
