Yarnall Abbott was a painter, photographer, writer, musician, as well as a licensed attorney. He grew up in Philadelphia, studied law at the University of Pennsylvania, then shifted careers to become a full-time artist. Abbott studied art in Paris then returned to the United States, practicing at the Pennsylvania Academy and becoming involved in the establishment of the Rockport Art Association, where he was eventually president in the 1920s. Abbott was also President of the Philadelphia Art Alliance, Chairman of the Circulating Picture Club, and a member of the Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
