Willie Nash was born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. In 1968 he received his B.A. in fine arts from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. Nash worked for some time as an illustrator for the US Air Force, he also taught at NCCU for several years, before being able to support himself solely as a visual artist.
