Late 18th century, brass face with chased design featuring an upper sun motif disc, black enamel Roman numerals and interior calendar ring and marked Shepherd, W. tHaven, with applied foliate spandrels, the case with a broken arched pediment having applied gilt composition rosettes, hinged glazed tombstone door flanked by fully ring turned columns, shaped waist door with banded trim and molded edge flanked by fluted quarter columns with upper relief carved lamb's tongue, the base with a raised banded panel on short ogee bracket feet, with two weights, winding key, case key and pendulum.

John Shepherd, of Whitehaven, is noted as an active clock maker in 1770.

Polished brass face; case restoration with later upper plinth and rosettes; later bracket foot base; tight shrinkage cracks to waist door and lower panel.
