Stretcher size 24 x 30 in.; Frame dimensions 32 1/2 x 38 1/4 in.

Gerald Leake was born in London and immigrated to the United States in 1915. He was a talented and sought after artist and illustrator, commissioned by the US Navy, Coca-Cola and the American Tobacco Company for advertising and poster designs. In the winter, he would leave New York City for Florida, where he taught art classes at Ernest Hemingway's house in Key West. Leake was a member of the American National Academy, Society of Illustrators, and the Royal Society of Artists. He exhibited frequently throughout his career at the Salmagundi Club, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Royal Academy, Art Institute of Chicago, the National Academy of Design, and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C.
