American Federal Inlaid Cherry Tall Case Clock

Attributed to Pennsylvania, circa 1800, pine secondary, painted metal face with moon dial and date dial, broken arched pediment with inlaid starburst, inlaid plinth, with two turned finials, tombstone glazed door flanked by fully turned and tapered columns which repeat at the rear; shaped and lipped waist door with inlaid escutcheon, upper and lower line edge inlay, canted corners, the base with geometric line inlay to top and bottom edges, canted corners, on short French bracket feet, with a leaded brass bob and two weights.

The back with pencil inscription "Charles Bayler, Water St."

Charles Bayler (PA, 1853-1921) is the great grandfather of the consignor; a 1910 census lists Bayler as a tobacco merchant living at 712 Water St., York, Pennsylvania.
