Hacker Martin of Gray, Tennessee made a name for himself as an old school black powder gunsmith and grist mill operator in the Johnson City area. In the early 1950s, a milling opportunity took him to Appomattox, Virginia where he also continued to make flintlock and percussion longrifles.

Hammer screw in fixed position prohibiting function; patchbox engravings with cleaning residue; patchbox appears to be decorative rather than functional as it will not open; the wooden ramrod is fixed in place.
