Lot 2136
The Duke & Duchess of Windsor, Sotheby's 1997 Catalogue and Text by Hugo Vickers
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
A rare and complete bidder package, including the three volume softcover Sotheby's 1997 Catalogue Set with slipcase, the first volume personally inscribed and signed by Dede Brooks, including the Addenda, four copies of the Errata, and the "Property Listing," accompanied by associated loose printed materials and contained within a Sotheby's branded tote; the fourth a hardcover text of The Private World of The Duke and Duchess of Windsor by Hugo Vickers, first edition, Harrods Publishing, 1995.

Dede Brooks, the former CEO of Sotheby's, the onetime star of both the art and business worlds, who pleaded guilty to collusion and price-fixing with another auction house, along with her boss, A. Alfred Taubman , served no time in jail, but was sentenced to three years' probation, including six months of home confinement, 1,000 hours of community service and a $350,000 fine.

As part of a settlement with the company, she agreed to give back $3.25 million in salary as well as stock options she received as Sotheby's CEO while the price-fixing conspiracy was ongoing.

The Duke & Duchess of Windsor sale was originally scheduled for September 11-19, 1997 but was postponed until February, 1998, due to the tragic death of Lady Diana.

Good estate condition with some minor shelf wear; Hugo Vickers text with written name to interior page.
