French Renaissance Carved Walnut Armoire à Deux Corps

Attributed to the shop of Germain Pilon, 17th century, two part form, layered molded stepped cornice above a boldly relief carved frieze with cherubs and scrolls, two upper cabinet doors each with relief carved female standing figures, the left with bow and arrow, the right with spear and dog, center and flanking stiles with fluted columns, upper Corinthian capital and lower leaf and vine carving, above two small side-by-side drawers, with two recumbent mythological figures, the base featuring two small drawers with repeating recumbent male and female mythological figures, two lower cabinet doors again with relief carved standing mythological figures, the left with child, the right with shield and spear, center and flanking stiles fluted and with an acanthus carved capital, vine, leaf and grape socle, upper and lower sides with applied raised panels featuring a central carved rosette, bold projecting and molded base raised on suppressed ball feet.
