Orrin White grew up within a wealthy industrialist family in Illinois. After studying textile design and teaching chemistry to appease his family, White moved to Pasadena in 1912 to devote himself to painting full time.

White found great inspiration from the dramatic landscape of the San Gabriel Mountains. In 1915, his paintings were accepted for exhibition at both the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco and the Panama-California International Exposition in San Diego. He continued to exhibit work throughout his long and successful career and is counted among the best of the California Plein-Air painters.

Several small paint flakes; no evidence of restoration visible under UV light.
