Attributed to Mecklenburg county, circa 1790-1800, walnut and mahogany, mahogany veneer, yellow pine secondary, two part form, a distinctive cove molded cornice surmounted by a checkerboard inlaid plinth, down-swept panels attached to corner blocks with inlaid faux triple line fluting, five urn form finials with acorn tip, plain upper frieze with double line inlay, two large hinged doors with molded astragal mullions, louvered shelved interior, the desk with a dovetailed case and hinged lipped slant front inlaid lid having loper supports, interior with central inlaid prospect door opening to reveal two pigeon holes and two small drawers, flanked by a total of eight valanced pigeon holes and six small drawers, the case with four flush mounted graduated drawers featuring vertical mahogany veneers with double light wood line inlay to border, one-half length dust boards, veneered scalloped skirt, French feet.

One finial with break at stem and loss to acorn tip; two finials with break and loss to circular base; cut and patch to top case right side rear corner; later glazing; the desk with cut/patch at interior lid hinge area; prospect door with later hinges; lower drawer with veneer loss at banded edge; later pulls with plug and patch; lower case bottom left and right rear corners with cut and patch; feet and feet facings appear original, later rear bracings.
