Frederic Howard Toone Bacon was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania and lived most of his life in Philadelphia. After serving in the US Army, he studied Studio Art and Art History at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. Bacon went on to earn his MFA from the Instituto Allende Universidad de Guanajuato, Mexico. He also studied privately with Dr. Selma Burke, a sculptor who gained national recognition during the Harlem Renaissance, in New Hope, Pennsylvania.

Frederic Bacon was active in all manner of the arts - from modern dance, theatre, painting and drawing. He performed with the Selma Garret Dancers and John Hines Dance Company. His lasting legacy as an art educator and administrator with the Philadelphia School District is unmeasurable.
