The consignors commissioned this large outdoor sculpture after falling in love with a small table top piece, titled Life Cycles. The sculptor recalls their response to the abstract tree-like qualities for their property in North Carolina and the intersecting bands as a symbol of their relationship.

Karen Yank is a New Mexico based artist that is known for large geometric abstract sculptures fabricated with cor-ten steel. She has completed large scale public commissions and installations, with numerous solo exhibitions throughout the US, including Turner Carrol Gallery and Zane Bennett Contemporary in Santa Fe, New Mexico; Lemmons Contemporary and AIR Gallery in New York, New York; among exhibitions in Arizona, Colorado, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, New Jersey, and other states.

Primary influences on Karen's work include Alexander Calder, and a close mentorship with New Mexico artist, Agnes Martin. Karen studied with Agnes at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine in 1987. A two-person exhibition of both artists' work was on display at Turner Carroll Gallery, September 21 -October 15, 2018.
