From the Collection of Mr. Stephen A. Stutts, Rome, Georgia

The original portrait by Beaux, completed in 1894, depicted the artist's cousin Sarah Allibone Leavitt with a cat and was painted in a barn studio in Essex Fells, New Jersey. The painting was exhibited in 1895 at the Society of American Artists and the Paris salon at the Champ de Mars in 1896. The original painting is in the collection of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, with a 1921 copy by Beaux in The National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
