Oil on canvas, signed and dated 1913 at lower right, presented in a period gilt frame with linen liner and gallery plaque.

Stretcher size 30 x 20 in.; Frame dimensions 35 1/2 x 25 in.

English born Edgar Hargreaves settled in San Francisco, California in 1899. After serving in the United States Army during World War I, he enrolled at the California School of Fine Arts. He worked as a car inspector for the Southern Pacific Railroad and painted and etched California scenes during his leisure time.

Hargreaves exhibited throughout his lifetime, showing at the San Francisco Chapter of the Society for Sanity in Art at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor and the San Francisco Art Association.

Faint stretcher marks; yellowing varnish; light surface grime; area of paint loss and wear to canvas at lower left quadrant; no evidence of restoration visible under UV light; soiling to linen liner.
