Florence Reed was born and raised in Belmont, Massachusetts. She moved to Cape Cod after graduating from college and garnered a reputation as an accomplished portrait artist. Following the outbreak of World War II, she moved to Boston and worked as an illustrator for Massachusetts General Hospital. In 1958, she moved her family to New Hampshire where she earned her education degree. She raised her family, taught school, painted and opened an art gallery.
