Robert Vernet-Bonfort was born in Marseille and studied at the city's l'école des Beaux-Arts from 1948 to 1957. Deaf from a young age, Vernet-Bonfort found great comfort and a means of expressing himself through the application of paint on canvas.

He has been recognized as belonging to the “Modern School of Marseille”, a style of French Provencal painting dominated by the sensuous colours and striking contrasts found in the rural and maritime landscapes of the South of France and Spain.

Some minor craquelure and minor paint flake to blue sky; no evidence of restoration visible under UV light.
