The first is red glazed, the applied features suggest whistling (11 3/4 in.); two small jugs, alkaline glaze with double row of ceramic teeth (5 1/4 in.) and one glazed in Albany slip (4 in.), all inscribed on the underside.

A North Carolina native, Smith's work is characterized by traditional forms of the Catawba Valley utilizing the alkaline glaze as well as expressing his love of bright colors in his glazes.
