Harry Roseland was born and lived his entire life in Brooklyn, New York. He is well known for his genre scenes, many of which feature African Americans in domestic scenes following the Civil War.

Roseland received many awards over the course of his career. These include gold medals from the Brooklyn Art Club (1888), the Boston Art Club (1904), and the American Art Society in Philadelphia (1907) and The National Academy of Design.

Light toning and minor fading; some chipping to frame; not examined out of the frame.
