William Teal lived and worked in Ohio as an artist of post-impressionistic landscape scenes of Rockport, Cape Anne, Gloucester, and Cincinnati. Often favoring a bold pallet, Teal was influenced by the mosaic color handling of Maurice Prendergast. He studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati under Frank Duveneck, Lewis Henry Meakin, and Charles Salis Kaelin. He also taught fine art at Hughes High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. An exhibition of his students' work was held at the Rhode Island School of Design.

He was a member of the Duveneck Society of Painters and Sculptors, the Rockport Art Association, and the Cincinnati Art Club. Teal's works have been exhibited at Closson's Art Gallery, Getz-Brown Gallery, and the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Some light areas of aging crackle; mildewing to verso, otherwise good estate condition.
