Joseph Dynes was likely born in Scotland, but emigrated to Canada in the mid-19th century. He was a partner in three different photography studios in Montreal and Quebec. He also offered his services as a copyist in both watercolor and oil paintings. Along with Cornelius Krieghoff and Robert Clow Todd, Dynes also painted charmingly naive Canadian scenes. He exhibited works at the Toronto Society of Arts in 1848, and likely elsewhere during his lifetime.

Crack to panel with associated paint loss; scattered paint flaking; drying crackle; light surface grime; slight warp wot panel; frame with loss to composition ornament; no evidence of restoration visible under UV light.
