The present work is a rare large format painting of Johann Berthelsen's highly coveted New York snow scenes. Dating to circa 1938, the painting captures a bustling scene of skaters on the Pond in Central Park. Visible in the distance are several iconic New York landmarks, Gapstow Bridge, the Savoy-Plaza Hotel (demolished in 1964), and the imposing towers of the Pierre and Sherry-Netherland hotels.

Craquelure primarily limited to sky, with several small associated paint flakes; no evidence of restoration visible under UV light.
