Eben Comins was a Boston-native artist who had an adept technical knowledge of painting techniques, and received a gold medal at the Panama Exposition for his contributions to art instruction. He taught in various locations including his Boston studio, at the Saint Paul School of Fine Arts, Saint Paul, Minnesota, Wellesley College, Wellesley, Massachusetts; the Swain School of Design in New Bedford, Connecticut; and operated an art school in Washington, DC before his death in Falls Church, VA on April 13, 1949. He is best known for his portraits, contemporary genre scenes, and landscape works.
