18th century, likely Italian or Portuguese, carved wood, gesso and polychrome painted, glass eyes, posed in slight contrapposto with sandaled feet upon a round base. These religious wooden figures would have had a variety of outfits to be worn to celebrate specific saints’ days throughout the year.
