Ferdinand Barbedienne and Achille Collas (1795-1859), started a foundry company in 1838, known as Société Collas et Barbedienne, for the production and marketing of museum quality reproductions, with emphasis on sculptures of Greek and Roman origin. After inventing the machine that would mechanically reduce statues and transforming the bronze industry, they were able to produce sculptures in a variety of materials ranging from plaster and wood to bronze and ivory.

Some scattered rubbing to gilt and verdigris; otherwise good estate condition.
