Pastel on paper, signed at lower right, presented under glass within an ornate gilt frame.

Sight size 9 x 12 1/2 in.; Frame dimensions 17 1/2 x 21 x 2 1/2 in.

André Barbier settled in Paris at the age of twenty. That same year, 1903, he began exhibiting landscapes and still lifes at the Paris Salons. Greatly influenced by the impressionists, Barbier met and befriended Claude Monet in 1916.

Barbier exhibited at the popular Paris Salons throughout his career. Salon des Independants, the Salon d'Automme, the Societé Nationale des Beaux Arts, the Salon des Tuilleries and at the Société des Indépendants. In 1926 he was included in the pivotal exhibition of the Rétrospective des Artistes Indépendants.

Some minor fraying to edges of linen mat; not examined out of the frame.
