Canadian born, Julian Itter adopted the American West Coast landscape as his own. Considered to be the "founding father of the North Cascades National Park," he was an important early advocate for preserving the natural beauty of the Washington state landscape. While traveling in Paris, Itter was heralded the "most promising American painter in 25 years." Upon his return to the Northwest coast in 1912, he employed his more refined and studied techniques for depicting views of the Stehekin valley in Washington state. In 1906, the Butler Hotel in Seattle hosted an exhibition of Itter's paintings.

Small paint flake in one window; stable craquelure; light surface grime; frame with age cracks; no evidence of restoration visible under UV light.
