Charles Leaver Shaw was originally a lace designer. By 1876, he was living in Nottingham, England and exhibited his first landscape painting at the Birmingham Society of Artists Exhibition.

Shaw is best known for his landscapes of Wales, Scotland and the English Midlands.

Yellowing varnish; surface grime; patch to verso with associated small tear; some paint loss and retouch visible under UV light in lower left corner; later gold paint to frame, with some loss and chipping.
