William Shulgold was born in Russia but emigrated with his family to the United States as a baby. He began his formal art studies at the Carnegie Technical Institute in Pittsburg, and continued at the National Academy of Art and the Arts Students League in New York. After further studies in Paris, Florence, and Provincetown, Massachusetts with Charles Webster Hawthorne, Shulgold returned to Pittsburg. He was an art professor at Carnegie Mellon. He exhibited frequently throughout his career, showing at the Pennsylvania Academy, Art Institute of Chicago, Los Angeles County Museum, Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C., Carnegie International and the National Gallery in Toronto, Ontario.

Good estate condition; some light frame wear.
