Antique English Ram's Horn Snuff Mull with Military Association

Late 18th century-early 19th century, an authentic ram horn mounted with silver fittings, silver without maker's mark (silver content unknown, test silver), hinged lid engraved with period dedication for the 21st Light Dragoons cavalry regiment of the British Army: "XXI LD" (top lid) "The Gift of Lieut. A. M. L. D. Cardonnel / to the 21st Lt. Dragoons MeSs."

5.25 x 10 x 7.5 in.

Regimental colonels of the 21st light Dragoons included General Sir Banastre Tarleton of Revolutionary War notoriety. Tarleton was particularly active in the Carolinas, earning a reputation for conducting ruthless warfare.

Two mounts missing small nails to reverse, some scratches and small areas of tears / loss to silver mounts.
