Gold bullion, each fitted with a silver washed brass six-pointed star, the undersides of yellow silk (6-1/2 x 5 x 3 in.); the epaulettes are identified by a strip of paper found with them that reads "Gen Cas Gatlin 61"; included is a period japanned tin box not original to the epaulettes that also contains a Federal staff officer's eagle coat button and a conforming cuff button affixed to a card.

Private North Carolina Civil War Collection

A modern typed document included with the lot states the epaulettes originated in a Connecticut church yard sale.

Light aging to the epaulettes; some bullion loose; lacking one tassel; overall good condition.
