Two M1864 Federal Cartridge Boxes

The outer flaps for both are embossed with a US oval, the first box with maker's cartouche on an inner flap reading R. NECE / PHILAD. and having a military inspector's impression reading F. A. SNIFFEN / U. S. ORD. DEPT. / SUB INSPECTOR, the interior retains one tin insert, hardware present includes two roller buckles and a brass finial (7-1/2 X 9 in.) (lightly crazed surfaces) ; the second box is somewhat smaller and carries a partial NEWARK stamp and an illegible inspector's cartouche, both tins are present, however the buckles on the underside were removed long ago (7 x 8 in.)(overall surface wear).
