Likely made by the Naval Iron Works of Columbus, Georgia according to Shannon Pritchard's Collecting the Confederacy (2005); 18-3/4 in. forged blade; distinctive S-shaped brass cross guard below copper ferrule and wooden grip with integral pommel; canvas scabbard with brass tip and throat.

This weapon's scabbard appears to be a variant of the Columbus products in that it has brass mounts rather than being completely of canvas and has a blade with less pronounced tapering than Pritchard's illustrated example. From Laster's Fine Art & Antiques, Winston-Salem, NC. Their tag is present with the cutlass.
