Civil War Era Militia Uniform for a State of Maine 1st Lieutenant

Consisting of a dark blue wool frock coat, conforming trousers and a plain cotton shirt with small JWC on the hem; the coat with nine (9) gilt three-piece Maine State Seal Militia coat buttons on the front and five (5) more such buttons on the tails, the sleeves each with two cuff buttons, all but three of the buttons carry the backmark for D. Evans of Attleboro, Mass.; the collar, sleeves and trousers are of red wool with bullion trim, the sleeves having a lieutenant's quatrefoil above the cuff, each shoulder is sewn with the one-bar straps of a 1st lieutenant; the body of the coat is lined with black silk.

Coat: Collar to hem 39 in., sleeve 25 in.; Trousers: 39 in. long, waist 30 in.; Shirt: 35 in., sleeve 22 in.

The coat and trousers have small pinholes and areas of moth damage, the buttons remain bright with full gilt and no pushes, the silk in the left shoulder strap has detached on one end, the coat's silk lining mildly fractured; the shirt is intact with light age toning. Overall this ensemble is in very good condition.
