Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Percussion, .577 caliber, 39 in. barrel with adjustable rear sight and fixed front sight, lock marked 1863 / TOWER with crown, the number 25 on barrel at breech; brass butt plate, nose cap and trigger guard; the walnut stock with three barrel bands and stamped with a factory cartouche on the right side of the butt, an anchor in front of the buttplate's tang having an S centered below its point rather than a JS, plus an obscured stamp reading "GOO__SON" on the butt's underside. The bayonet is marked by S. PRESTON of Manchester. The usual Confederate import markings are not present.

From a Collector, Franklinville, North Carolina.

Working action, original surfaces throughout; all markings stamped on the wood are fragmentary; powder pits from heavy use at breech; front barrel band has slipped forward about .5 in.; rear sight is present, but free of the barrel and needs to be re-seated; oxidation to the bayonet. A good working example of this Civil War era weapon.
