Steve McClure was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa. From 1995 until 2003 he was living in Durham, North Carolina where he founded the Willie Shaker Gallery, an artist run gallery space. While in Durham, he also produced the experimental noise show, Collective Media Project, on WXDU 88.5.

McClure is an interdisciplinary artist whose work has been exhibited internationally. He has been awarded fellowships from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts; a Special Editions Residency at the Lower East Side Printshop in New York; and the AIM residency at the Bronx Museum of Arts in New York. He currently lives and creates in Vancouver, Canada.
