Watercolor on paper, signed and dated 1948 to lower right corner, unframed. Gonzalez was active in Provincetown, Massachusetts around 1947, and therefore is likely a harbor view of Provincetown or Wellfleet.

Born in Almeria, Spain Xavier Gonzalez immigrated to Mexico and then to the United states in 1927. He studied fine arts at various locations including the Art Institute of Chicago from 1921 to 1923, the San Carlos Academy in Mexico City, and in Paris and in the Far East. He was a teacher at Tulane University, Brooklyn Museum, Sul Ross State Teachers College, Case Western Reserve University and in New Orleans at Newcomb Memorial School of Art.
Gonzalez is known for figurative works, landscapes, and created WPA works such as the "Tung Oil Industry" post office mural for Covington, Louisiana.
Gonzalez' artwork has been widely exhibited throughout the United States including Corcoran Gallery of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art and Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum. In 1953, he was elected to the National Academy of Design in New York City as an Associate member and became a full Academician in 1955.
