Henry Kenyon was born in Rhode Island to Quaker parents. He began his formal studies at the Rhode Island School of Design. In 1882, he left for France and continued his studies at the Academie Julian. While in France, Kenyon befriended Arthur Wesley Dow, who, along with the impressionists, was a life-long influence on Kenyon's work.

In 1890, Kenyon returned to the United States. He eventually settled in Ipswich, Massachusetts where Dow was from and founded the Ipswich Summer School of Art. Kenyon was drawn to the surrounding landscape which reminded him of the areas around Brittany, France.

Henry Kenyon's work was well received and he exhibited regularly at the National Academy of Design in New York between 1913 and 1918.

Light surface grime; minor rubbing to frame; no evidence of restoration visible under UV light.
