Antique Pictorial Scottish Sampler dated 1809

Worked in multi-color silk and wool on loose weave ground, centering on a floral filled vase with avian motifs, top register with a lady and gentleman and with animal figurals and peacocks, the oval cartouches with birds and one stitched with the name Reed (perhaps instructress) bottom register with the United Kingdom coat-of-arms with the British Lion, Unicorn of Scotland, family initials, and date 1809 surmounting a two-chimney house between trees and animal motifs, the whole within a berry and vine border, conservation mounted and presented in a cove molded bird's eye maple veneer frame.

Sight size 21.5 x 17.25 in.; Frame size 24.5 x 20.5 in.

Purchased October 2020 from M. Finkel & Daughter, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and accompanied with photocopy of sales receipt.

Good estate condition; some toning lower right corner. Not examined out-of-frame.
