Hannah L. Paulin's Needlework Sampler Dated 1840, New Jersey

Worked in multi-color silk threads on linen, the seven alphabet rows above elaborate flower filled baskets flanking a pious verse where maker stitched, "Hannah L Paulin was born / November 13th 1827 her sa / mpler done in the 13th year of / her age," within an undulating border and with birds to top corners, conservation mounted and presented in a maple frame.

Previous research shows Hannah was born in 1827 to Lemuel and Sarah (Husted) Paulin of Cohansey Township, Cumberland County, New Jersey and married Harrison Perry of Bridgeton, Cumberland County.

Sight size 16.5 x 17.5 in.; Frame size 20.25 x 21 in.

Private Collection, Wilmington, North Carolina

Purchased January 2011 from M. Finkel & Daughter, Philadelphia and accompanied by photocopy of original receipt and research on maker and maker's family.
