Foltz, a Moravian originally from Pennsylvania, learned his craft from the Voglers of Salem, North Carolina. A George Foltz gun with characteristics similar to this one is listed as Rifle #114 in Bill Ivey's North Carolina Schools of Longrifles, 1765-1865 (Thomasville: William W. Ivey, 2010).

Drill holes still present from percussion conversion; hairline repaired with pin in front of the lock plate; brass with evidence of cleaning; barrel pin behind nose cap is loose; nice surfaces to barrel; front trigger releases hammer, but good working action will require smithing.
