The first worked in multi-color silk on linen ground, with a flower filled urn centering the composition, and with various motifs including birds, trees, gazebos, and a pair of angels surmounting pious verse, bottom register with maker's name, "Mary Ann Hatton Her Work / Finished in the 13 Years Of Her / Age In The Year 1824," presented in a painted black frame with applied detailing (frame size 18 x 14 in.) (with small scattered holes); the second worked in multi-color silk threads on linen, with five alphanumeric rows surmounting various floral motifs, with pious verse above maker's name, "Mary Ranson Nov 5 1798," mounted and presented in a contemporary painted frame (sampler size 14 x 12.5 in.; frame size 18.75 x 17.25 in.) (with some holes; with loss to sides).
