Worked in multi-color silk threads on linen, with a two stanza verse titled "Religion" and with Orientalist motifs, centered with a couple on a lush lawn, maker's name and date stitched below "Mary Ann Commins / Aged Nine Years / November 1837," with trees, birds, and flowers and with pagodas to bottom register, within a floral and vine border, presented under glass in a carved mahogany frame with carved detailing.

Sight size 18.25 x 13 in.; Frame size 24 x 19 in.

Purchased December 2010 from Madelena Antiques, Ltd., Battlesbridge, Essex, London and accompanied by a photocopy of sales invoice.

With some scattered holes; frame with separation and repairs at corners; not examined out-of-frame.
