Francisco Hung was a noted abstract expressionist painter from Venezuela. Born in China to a Venezuelan mother and a Chinese father, Hung and his family settled in Maracaibo, Venezuela in 1950. He began his studies at the Julio Arraga School of Art in Maracaibo, then continued in Caracas at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas Cristóbal Rojas. In 1958, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Superior School of Fine Arts in Paris. After several years in Europe, Hung returned to Venezuela in 1963, settling permanently in Maracaibo. He exhibited frequently over the next several decades and was very active in the country’s cultural and artistic circles.
