Janet Fish is a contemporary American realist painter whose work is in the collection of numerous prominent institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago; Cleveland Museum of Art; Metropolitan Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Whitney Museum of American Art; and the Yale University Art Gallery.

In a conversation between the collector and Ms. Fish, the artist revealed that this work was one of the first attempts where she introduced the human figure since art school. This work came about following the delivery of flowers sent over by the florist at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a commission by the Botanical Gardens. Ms. Fish was inspired when she saw Amelia Earhart, her studio apprentice at the time and niece of the famed aviator, holding them.
