Oil on canvas (lined), unsigned, retaining a label reading "Roger Pocklington" beneath a crest, inscribed to frame "Portrait of Mrs. Pocklington of Winthorpe (Mary)" to verso of frame, presented in an antique gilt frame.

Stretcher size 36 x 28 in.; Frame dimensions 43 x 35 in.

By inheritance in the family of the sitter through Joseph Pocklington (d. 1874), grandson of the sitter, who assumed the name Senhouse after his marriage to Elizabeth Senhouse, eldest daughter and heiress of Humphrey Senhouse, of Netherhall, Cumberland, and by descent to Mrs. Senhouse
