Oil on canvas (lined), retaining a label for William & Philip Evans at 37 Beak Street in London (1884-1907), also retaining remnants of a hand-written label reading "(illegible) 78 / Portrait. Boy / (Hogarth)," presented in an antique frame.

Stretcher size 24 1/4 x 20 in.; Frame dimensions 30 3/8 x 25 1/4 in.

A typed note affixed to the backing indicates that on "November 6, 1996, Dr. Brian Allen examined this painting at the offices of the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art and pronounced it a Hogarth." The note further reads that "it (the painting) is included in the Institute's files as a Hogarth."
